Asking for cash can be problematic. As the team that built the UK’s favourite gift list, we know the struggle all too well.
In reality, it’s perfectly acceptable to ask guests to contribute towards something that really matters to you, be that your dream honeymoon or a new house fund instead of a physical gift you might not need.
Here at Gather, we often see “Your presence is present enough, but if you’d like to buy us a gift, we’d love a contribution towards our honeymoon”. While lovely, this isn’t always helpful for guests who are unsure exactly how to make their contribution: cash in cards is neither practical nor safe, and neither is publishing your bank details on a public wedding website. Plus, with random payments landing in your bank account, it’s hard to keep track of who has given what.
That’s why we created the Gather Gift Fund. It’s simple, discrete and 100% secure, as cash comes directly and immediately to you, not a third party. It's also completely free to use for both you and your guests, meaning 100% of every contribution goes to you.
How it works.
Give your Gift Fund a title like ‘Our Honeymoon Fund’ and add a description to show guests what their contributions will go towards. You can even include an image, giving them something tangible to get excited about.
Choose whether to add bank details or a link to a payment service like PayPal, Monzo or Venmo, and that’s it. You’re all set.
When guests arrive at their Personal Guest Area, whether they’re RSVP’ing or checking in on other details, they’ll see your Gift Fund.
They pledge an amount they’d like to contribute, leave you a gift message and then view your payment details or link, ready to make their contribution directly to you: we don’t touch your money.
You can see exactly who has pledged what along with their gift message in the Gifting section of your Gather account. And after the wedding, you can download a summary of all contributions, making thank you notes a breeze.
You’re welcome!
